Updated: Aug 23, 2019

The Saving Lives Task Force has established a Faith Leader subcommittee to bring together leaders of the faith community to address the substance abuse challenges on the Outer Banks. The group offers an opportunity for faith leaders to share ideas on addressing stigma, providing education, identifying treatment resources, and providing support in recovery.

The NC Council of Churches is sponsoring a Clergy Breakfast on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 9:30 until 11:30 am at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. Tickets can be obtained online by visiting: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-opioid-crisis-the-faith-community-responds-clergy-breakfast-tickets-61782714763 or email elizabeth@ncchurches.org for more information On the Outer Banks, there a variety of faith communities and though there may be disagreements on doctrine, all must agree that we have people in our congregations and communities that are hurting from addiction. The breakfast will provide church leaders with information on the Opioid Crisis, ways their congregation can get involved, and resources available in our community.

The Saving Lives Task Force is open to any member of the Dare County community. The Faith Leader Outreach subcommittee is designed to support faith leaders in responding to the substance abuse challenges within their communities. For more information on this subcommittee, please contact Reverend Gina Miller at gmiller@nccumc.org or Dr. Richard Martin at rjmconsults@gmail.com.
